My friend, Jane Wasem, at Holston Habitat Humanity has sent out an all points, requesting help for Habitat's rebuild effort in East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. I'm happy to support her work and Habitat's ongoing work. Habitat's work is well known, and their ability to produce low cost and efficient housing is wonderful. Here's the Habitat link if you can help. Hurricane Helene Donation. This is the general donation link: Holston Habitat
In troubling, disturbing times like these, the donation makes me just feel better.

Here's a message from Jane describing the need and the work being done:
"The amount of devastation was unexpected and unprecedented with the flooding and mudslides from the hurricane. There has been a generous response initially with volunteers and supplies for immediate relief, but what we are seeing is that only 1% of people affected had flood insurance and even 1 inch of flood water can cause $25,000 of damages and need for repair."
"Currently, we can build a home for around $150k and our average repair is $20-30k. We are always fundraising for our General Building Fund to do as many new homes and repairs as possible each year, but we have also set up a Hurricane Helene Relief Fund that will go directly to repairs and rebuilding for hurricane victims."
